12th Australian Agronomy Conference

Australian agriculture - learning from the past and planning for the future

The 2004 Australian Agronomy Conference was held in conjunction with the 4th International Crop Science Conference in Brisbane from 25 September - 1 October 2004. It was a highly successful event attended by more than 1100 scrop scientists from around the world. Guest speakers included Dr M.S Swaminathan, the father of the "ever-green revolution" and credited by TIME Magazine as one of the 20 most influential Asians of the 20th Century.

Read the biographies of M.S. Swaminathan and other plenary speakers.

Prof. Swaminathan's paper was one of more than 850 presented at the congress and published online at www.cropscience.org.au. These papers are free to access and represent a valuable archive for the international crop science community.

In addition to the many speakers who addressed Australian issues within the 4th International Crop Science Congress program, the 12AAC hosted a special session on Australian Agriculture on Thursday 30 September 2004. The session included the presentation of the Donald Medal to Dr Tony Fischer and oration and the following concurrent sessions:

  • Pathways to efficient and profitable agriculture
  • Farming and land stewardship
  • The benefits and challenges of crop-livestock integration in Australian agriculture
  • The imperatives for research implementation and delivery in Australia
